The winners of the 2012 SPACE Prize have been announced. Alas, my nominated collaboration with Matt Kish didn’t win, but a hearty congratulations to all the winners. And I’d especially like to send a shout out to my fellow PANEL Collective peeps Tony Goins and Andy Bennett for their 2nd place finish in the Mini-Comics/Short Story category for their story “The Only Two,” from our PANEL #18 anthology:
See you all at this year’s S.P.A.C.E., April 13 & 14 in Columbus, Ohio.
I forgot to mention this earlier, but a short story I did with fellow PANEL Collective member Matt Kish has been nominated for the 2012 SPACE Prize in the “minicomics/short story” category. The prize is associated with Columbus’ own long-running indie comic convention, S.P.A.C.E. (Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo). The story appeared in volume 19 of our self-published anthology, titled PANEL: Green.
By the way, you can read the entirety of our “silent” story on Matt’s blog.
About the SPACE Prize
From the books which were collected at SPACE 2012, we will be awarding the 2012 SPACE Prizes. The prizes will be presented in three categories – General, Minicomic/Short Story and Webcomic. The winners will be picked from three voting bodies in each category. Two rotating judges and the registered SPACE 2012 Exhibitors.
For the full list of finalists, go here. The winners will be announced at the 2013 S.P.A.C.E. on April 13 & 14.
My fellow PANEL Collective member has a few new pieces of flash fiction that he’s posted on our group blog. They’re super quick reads, so head on over there and enjoy:
My fellow PANEL Collective member Matt Kish has updated his blog with one of my favorite collaborations with him, an 8-page silent story called Green-To-Green. We did this story for volume 19 of the PANEL anthology, which all of us in the PANEL group collaborate on and self-publish twice a year. The theme of the book was “green,” and you can read our story on Matt’s blog here.
To whet your appetite, here’s a look at page 1:
I struggled for the longest time to come up with an idea for the book, but inspiration struck on the long drive back to Columbus from Florida last year. We had spent a week swimming and paddleboarding in the keys (Isla Morada), taking in the beautiful sights and gliding around mangrove forests, and it all came together to form the basis of this story.
If you’d like a copy of the 32-page book, which features 4 other stories under a gate-fold cover, contact me via the link in the menu bar above. $4 will get you a signed copy, with free shipping.
The 19th volume of the PANEL Collective’s anthology debuts at S.P.A.C.E. this weekend. The theme for this issue is “Green,” and for your $3 you gets 32 pages of pure indie comix.
Here’s a sneak peek at my contribution, a silent story titled “Green to Green,” with art by the incomparable Matt Kish:
